Construction has finally resumed at the Egodini Terminal Mall in the heart of Bulawayo’s central business district, ending a 14-month hiatus that had frustrated commuters, traders and city planners alike.
Terracotta Trading, the project’s developer, confirmed that new equity partners had come on board, allowing earthworks and structural work to recommence. The first phase — a modern bus terminus and informal trader market — is now scheduled for handover within nine months.
Egodini, once the city’s bustling rank for kombis bound for the high-density suburbs, has been a symbol of stalled urban renewal since 2017. For thousands of vendors temporarily relocated, the resumption is more than symbolic.
“I have been selling tomatoes from a plastic crate for six years waiting for this terminal,” said vendor MaNcube. “If they finish it, my grandchildren can have a proper stall.”
